Podcasts: Next generation of Radio
Podcasts are hot. So much so, that Apple has picked up the concept that started just sometime ago and merged it in their mainstream player (iPod) and digital music store (iTunes). Analysts call this the next generation radio, which might give big time competition to this particular field as the users get to choose their own content to hear on the move.
With the release of iTunes 4.9, readers get a corporate sponsored live portal to find new and interesting Podcasts to download on their iPods. Though, the concept is usable on all the popular MP3 music players available in the market… iTunes only let users chose iPod as their digital device.
The Podcast is the RSS version of the content that can be downloadable on the portable music player. Unlike the popular music, users can now hear text-based information on the move. It can be a school lecture and it can be a recorded telecasted show, it just brings forward limitless possibilities of providing free content to masses.
Users are also free to register their own Podcasts on the iTunes store giving them to power to express themselves to the world. They just get a new medium to explore and the concept is spreading like a fire in the jungle.
