The declining demand of DVDs in the market

Market Analysts have claimed that the declining demand for DVDs of popular movies like “Shrek 2″ and “The Incredibles” talks more about the changing consumer interest rather than the popularity of the DVD media. Pixar Animation Studios Inc is one of the worst affected companies, as they had to cut its current-quarter earnings target on Thursday after slower-than-expected DVD sales of “The Incredibles”.

On similar terms, Rival DreamWorks Animation Studios SKG Inc reported similar trouble with its “Shrek 2″ DVD in the month of May. Analysts have said that the DVD sales are now complimenting sales figures of the theatre market as the initial demand for DVDs of latest releases fade with time as the time passes by.

Both Shrek 2 and The Incredibles are best sellers in the market with Shrek 2 being the top-grossing animated film of all time. Experts say that the companies should now be prepared for a shorter shelf life of titles in the market and generate more content for this media for rather constant sales in the market to keep the profits up.

However, some of the popular retailers have denied reports that the DVD sales have fallen down drastically. Best Buy said in a statement released to the media: “We don’t have the sense of ‘Incredibles’ not doing well. Our general perception is one quarter of softening DVD sales doesn’t make a trend. From our perspective there’s still lots of passion on DVD and we have lots of shelf space devoted to it.”
