Toyota to massively increase production of hybrids

Hybrids are hot. Toyota knows it very well. So much so, that it has decided to double the production of their hybrid cars next year to meet the ever-increasing demand for such vehicles in markets like North America. Toyota is said to be considering increasing production of models like its Prius, Harrier, and Kluger to 500,000 units by increasing output in southern Japan’s Fukuoka prefecture and other places.

This reported was released to the public by the media group Asahi Shimbun newspaper. Also in plans is to hike the production in the plant in Toyota City in central Japan. The company is already in the process of setting up a production facility for its hybrid vehicles at its plants in the northeast Chinese city of Changchun and the US state of Kentucky.

Toyota has officially not accepted these reports in the media about enhancing the production of their hybrid vehicles to meet up with the demands of the market. A Toyota representative said in a statement to the media: ‘Toyota is making efforts towards the goal of selling one million hybrid vehicles worldwide (annually in the future), but we have not specifically decided to raise production to 500,000 units in 2006.”
