Nissan makes an official entry into the Indian market

Hyundai discovered India sometime back and now are the second biggest auto manufacturers after Maruti. The auto market in India is growing so fast that new companies are making an entry on a fairly regular basis no matter how sensitive the market is to prices of the vehicles. Volkswagen was one of the big names to make an official entry recently thought the plans are somewhat delayed due to internal issues in the company. The next big name is Nissan, which is now looking at the Indian market rather seriously.

The company officially entered the Indian market with the starting of operations at Nissan Motor India Private, Ltd. (NMIPL), its wholly owned subsidiary in Mumbai, earlier in June. The setup is capitalized at 42 million rupees and would take care of the importation of Nissan vehicles and spare parts, as well as the sales, marketing, distribution and after sales support of Nissan’s products in India. The company has 11 employees.

Yoshie Motohiro, managing director of NMIPL and the first female executive at Nissan to head a regional subsidiary said in a statement: “We see great potential for Nissan in the Indian market and expect India to be one of the key contributors to Nissan’s growth in the future.” The company considers India as a potential market to increase its presence under the company’s new three-year business plan Nissan Value-Up announced on April 25.

The company also opened its first dealer showroom in Mumbai whose look and feel is consistent with Nissan’s brand identity around the world. They already have five independent dealers in India, one each in Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Nissan already has entered the Indian market through their X-TRAIL compact sport utility vehicle (SUV).
