Intel collaborates with Freeman to launch ClickStar Incorporation
Microprocessor industry giant Intel Corporation has joined hands with Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman to launch a new digital entertainment company. The company would be focusing on distributing movies directly to consumers over the Internet. They call this newly unveiled entity ClickStar Incorporation and it would be creating an online service where consumers can download for a fee first-run, pre-DVD-release films.
Also on offer would be artist-created entertainment channels. The aim is to provide a platform for independent filmmakers to connect to their audiences directly. Morgan Freeman said during the launch: “ClickStar addresses the growing worldwide consumer demand for digital content — especially filmed entertainment. Our goal is to deliver first-run premium entertainment to film fans around the world and to make film easier to buy than to pirate.”
The company would be headed by Former Sony Pictures executive Nizar Allibhoy. And the company would start working by collaborating with artists, producers, and distribution companies to build a slate of films that will be available in theaters, as well as online. However, there are potential problems in store for this entity as most big movie studios in the United States like Warner Bros. and Sony are planning their own online channels for distributing movies on the Internet.
Lack of good content might lead to this company failing even before it can start to create its identity in the market. Apple is another company, which is rumored to be considering a video delivery online webstore to compliment its iTunes digital music store in the near future.
