Disney collaborates with Sprint to launch Disney Mobile Service
Entertainment industry giant Disney is collaborating with Sprint to offer Disney branded wireless handsets and entertainment content to families in America. The Walt Disney Company’s Internet Group aims to establish themselves as a popular brand name in the nationwide wireless phone service. They call it Disney Mobile and they would be using the Sprint’s PCS network. Their primary target market is families and they aim to start functioning sometime next year.
The company is also in process of developing exclusive handsets and mobile content aimed at the targeted audiences. The company said in a press release: “We’ll be in investment mode for the next several years, but expect that over the long run this initiative will generate solid financial returns for the company.†Disney would be responsible for all the aspects of the services like customer relations, billing, and product development.
Their were speculation going on in the market about such an announcement from the entertainment giant. However, they were said to be going on with Nextel Communications. However, Nextel and Sprint are in a planned merger deal of their own and this reflects that the merged entity would have Sprint taking care of the domestic home users while Nextel would be concentrating on the corporate users.
