No more free pretzels for passengers on US Airways

Airline industry in the United States is going through tough times. On one hand, the rising cost of aviation fuels is leading to increasing ticket prices and now they are finding new ways to cut costs on day-to-day operations. The US Airways has decided that the passengers traveling on their airlines will no longer get the free packets of pretzels they are so used to receiving on flights.

The Arlington-based carrier informed their employees about this latest news in an internal memo. Some of the other similar decision included hot meals and paper tickets. The airlines believes that this move alone would save them around a million dollars per year. However, they still would be offering free doughnuts to early morning passengers.

Transatlantic flights have been spared this cost cutting measure, as they would continue with the normal supply of this goodie. The airline is also working towards resuming serving hot meals next month to passengers in its first-class cabins. This entire cost cutting is because of the company operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since September. US Airways is also in the process of a merger with the America West Holdings Corporation later this year.
