Spyware attacks leading to changing behavior of web users

The latest survey result issued by the Pew Internet and American Life Project says the recent spat of the spywares on the internet has led to major changes in the way people use the Internet. Internet users are avoiding anonymous websites completely scared of being infected by them. They are also avoiding file sharing networks and best off all, taking a chance of switching their primary web browser to a better alternative.

More changes are noticed in the way people check their mails. Mail attachments are now more of a taboo with people avoiding to open mail attachments until they are very sure about their content. Susannah Fox, the study’s main author said in a statement: “People are scaling back on some Internet activities. People are feeling less adventurous, less free to do whatever they want to do online.”

In the broader sense, it is good that people are realizing that being unaware of the issues on the Internet can harm them in the long run. It also gives an indication that people are getting more interested in knowing the latest news from the world of computer security. Even Microsoft, the maker of the most used Operating System on the planet have noticed the nuisance spywares have become in the recent days and provide a free application called Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta to tackle such problems.
