Yahoo! to offer SMS based Web Searching

Google has already launched this service long time back. Now, Yahoo! is here to counter it with their own SMS based Web Searching. The company is soon rolling out its own service, which would let users in the United States use the Yahoo! Search Engine through text messaging through mobiles and PDAs. They are also in addition making available their Yahoo Search on Mobile to a wider range of mobile devices.

Now, Yahoo! is supporting any mobile phone with a colored screen with their Searching on Mobile facility. The aim is to become a major online services provider for the mobile phones as people use them to get online more regularly while on the move. Thad White, who runs mobile services for Yahoo! said in a statement: “Our goal is to deepen the relationship with our desktop users.”

Yahoo! is also providing special services where user would get results of a similar query he has already searched for without requiring to enter it again manually. These kinds of searches are useful for tracking stock quotes and match scores. Yahoo! is for the time being collaborating with mobile service providers in US like Cingular, Sprint and Verizon networks to provide these new facilities to their users and more are expected to join soon.
