Peace at last at Disney

Walt Disney Company has announced that dissident shareholders Roy Disney and Stanley Gold have decided to drop their lawsuit against the company and set their differences aside. Roy Disney is the nephew of the founder of the company and he along with Stanley Gold had filed a case in May over the selection of Robert Iger as chief executive.

They have also announced that they would not be running a rival slate of directors or submit any shareholder resolutions for the next five years. Also, Walt Disney has appointed Roy Disney as a director emeritus in the company. Now, both Roy and Stanley have expressed their faith in the leadership of Robert Iger as the chief executive.

Iger would take over from outgoing Chief Executive Michael Eisner on October 1 when the new financial year for the company begins. Now, Roy in his new position would have a greater access to company officials and have a stronger voice in Disney operations. Though, he would not be able to exercise any voting powers.

Market Analyst Larry Haverty said in a statement: “Hopefully, this indicates that Bob can successfully negotiate some of the issues facing the company. Roy was one, and Pixar is the other. This is a nice thing for Bob, and it’s good for the company to get this part of its history behind it.” The agreement between Disney and Pixar which makes digital animated movies is set to expire next year.
