Good Technology targeting RIM Blackberry with new collaborations

Research in Motion has further competition in the form of Good Technology, which has formed a collaboration with Sprint, Microsoft, IBM, and Samsung. The company already develops and sells products similar to RIM’s Blackberry devices, which is said to be the most popular PDA on the planet currently. It has outsold the products of PalmOne in the last couple of months to emerge as the champion of handheld devices this year.

Good Technology’s wireless corporate e-mail service called GoodLink is also quite popular in the corporate circles to stay in touch with the online world. They are also present in the support software applications and back-end server software market. In this new collaboration, Good Technology would now be working directly with telecommunications provider Sprint. Until now, they were providing their services as a third party supplier.

They would be providing their services on devices like Sprint PCS Smart Device Treo 650 (PalmOne) and the Sprint PCS Smart Device PPC 6600/6601 (Audiovox). This latest partnership gives them access to five of the largest mobile service providers in the United States. The company also claimed that more than 6,500 companies now use their products and services and they are in collaboration with around 100 wireless carriers in 50 countries.

Their latest version of GoodLink is compatible with the Microsoft Windows Mobile smart phones. They also plan to support the upcoming versions of the Symbian-powered Nokia handhelds. Some of the handsets now capable of supporting the GoodLink services are Motorola MPx220 and Audiovox SMT5600. The company has also tied up with IBM to develop GoodLink Lotus Domino Edition, which is expected to hit the retail market sometime next year. This would give them a potential targeted audience of 118 million Lotus users worldwide.
