Honda to develop a new sports car after NSX

Honda Motor Company has announced plans to develop a brand new sports car after decided to stop the production of their popular NSX model. The company had launched this model way back in the 1990s to give Japan their first super sports car on the likes of Ferraris and Porsches. The company is the third largest auto marker in the Japanese market and used the NSX model to showcase their capabilities in racing technology. The company is also involved actively in the Formula-1 sports with active collaboration with the BAR F1 Team.

The new model planned by the company would become the next generation offering from this Japanese company and would meet the safety and emission standards of the strict European and American market. The company however has not revealed much information about this upcoming model. The current model NSX was a hand made all aluminium models, which sold 18,500 units since its debut 15 years ago. The company had it priced in the range of $86,500-$121,300.

The popularity of this model has been declining in the last couple of years with cheaper and more advanced models available in the market from rival companies. Honda sold just 235 units of this model last year leading to the current situation that the company has decided to stop the production of this car altogether. Honda said it would halt production of Europe-bound NSX cars in September, and of those bound for Japan and North America in December.

Honda develops this model at the Honda’s domestic Suzuka factory where they also manufacture the popular Honda Insight model and the S2000 compact sports car.
