Porsche Cayman in India in 2006

Porsche has a reputation for producing vehicles that, despite their high performance, are reliable and tractable enough to be used for daily driving, and of high manufacturing quality and durability. The company is now planning to extend its offerings in the Indian market with the reported launch of the ultra cool Porsche Cayman S model sometime next year. The company is waiting for the launch of the model’s right handed model for the international market and India is one of the targeted markets where the company would be introducing it in.

Porsche Cayman S would be a mid-size 2-seat sports car and is based on the compact Boxster. the company intends to develop it as a pure sports car, with a stiffer suspension and higher performance then the Boxster or 911. the model to be launched internationally would feature the brand new 6 cylinder 3.4 liter engine which develops 295 BHP engine based on the engine which powers the Porsche Boxer. The maximum speed of this model is a cool 275kmph though few roads in India would let the drivers of this sports car achieve that feat.

The Cayman shares the platform of the Boxster along with its interior, front end, doors, and lights. The model to be launched in India is expected to cost in the range of 55-60 lakhs and should be instantly available through Porsche dealers in India like the Porsche Center Mumbai planning to open a new showroom in South Mumbai later this year.

All Wolfgang Dürheimer, executive V-P of R&D, says about this model from their stables: “We don’t think with the Cayman we will break with Porsche tradition. The S is the top model for a new product. The strategy of variants works very well on the 911 side. There’s no reason it can’t be applied to our other model lines.” We look forward to exciting times from the Porsche company in the Indian auto market!
