Samsung and LG to launch Wi-Fi handsets

Samsung and LG happen to be two of the biggest developers of mobile handsets. And they are all set to launch new generation handsets developed to support the popular Wi-Fi technology. This would mean that the older handsets would somewhat be obsolete following the traditional ways of handling telephone calls. The companies are working with the tech startup Kineto for this process.

Both these companies would be making use of the Kineto’s UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) technology to offer convergence on their upcoming handsets. This would mean that the traditional handsets would be merged with the technology to support the Wi-Fi technology. Samsung is currently on the stages of signing the agreement to get the license to use their technology; LG is already working with a US based company to create dual-mode handsets.

This would result in products, which would give the similar facilities British Telecom introduced with their BT Fusion product sometime back. For the time being, LG would be using the Kineto’s experience to launch UMA-compliant handset client software in some upcoming phones. Both the companies however have not confirmed the launch dates for their respective products to revolutionize the mobility market.
