NASA puts Space Shuttle launch on hold

More disappointment is in for the Space Shuttle fans. The latest news in is that the NASA has put the Discovery Space Shuttle launch on hold. The scientists as NASA are still working on finding out the problems with the fuel sensors, which postponed the launch earlier this week. This is NASA’s first Space Shuttle mission in nearly 2.5 years after it suffered the Columbia disaster, which resulted in deaths of the entire crew on board.

Earlier today, the technicians at NASA removed propellants from the shuttle’s on board power generators to further investigate the problem in the shuttle. This has more or less confirmed that the Shuttle cannot be launched within this weekend itself as it would take sometime to get it prepared for the mission. NASA representative Jessica Rye said in a statement: “At this point, we have backed out of the countdown. Technically, in a perfect world and if there was an easy fix, we could get back into the countdown (Friday) night, but we need to let the teams go and figure out the problem and how to fix it.”

NASA engineers have still not found out the source of the problem, which resulted in the cancellation of the launch. NASA was loading the astronauts in the shuttle when they noticed one of the four fuel sensors not responding properly. There are 200 possibilities for this fault and the scientists are looking into all of them.

NASA has until July 31 to launch Discovery for making a possible launch to make the Space Shuttle aim for reaching the International Space Station. The next possible launch window begins on Sept. 9. This is when NASA has planned to launch its Atlantis shuttle. NASA however is hopeful to make it in this month itself.
