Sharp introduces a simultaneous dual display television

Electronics giant Sharp is showcasing a new technology in LCD Displays. These new liquid crystal display screens are due to be released in the retail market later this month. It would then be the first mass-produced televisions capable of displaying different feeds at the same time. Users can change their viewing angles to see the different images. The company calls it “two-way viewing-angle LCD”.

Users can use these screens to do two different tasks at the same time like watching the television and surfing the web. For business consumers it can be for example used to display slides of a presentation while doing a web conferencing! Very interesting indeed. However, there is a major problem of the sound coming from the two feeds. If the two views are used to watch sound enabled feeds, one of the viewer would probably have to use headphones to hear what they are watching.

In spite of this flaw, the company is going ahead with the launch. Worse, the product is expected to cost twice as much as the normal displays as per market reports. The company is yet to comment on the pricing structure for these upcoming products. The company however said about the applied technology known as the ‘parallax barrier’: “the light from the back light to separate into right and left directions, which makes possible a display in which the view differs depending on the angle at which the screen is viewed”.

Hypersonic sound would also solve the audio issue.
