Space Shuttle Discovery now delayed indefinitely
More bad news is in store for NASA as they have now delayed the launch of the Discovery Space Shuttle indefinitely. The first mission to space for the Space Shuttle in nearly 2.5 years is facing more technical issues in spite of so much hard work put in by the space agency to make it safer for launch. NASA has now launched a massive investigation into why a fuel gauge failed right before Discovery’s scheduled liftoff.
Engineers at NASA are still not clear about the source of the problems in the fuel sensors in the Space Shuttle. Deputy shuttle program manager Wayne Hale: “We are going forward on a day-by-day basis. We have got the entire resources of the agency behind us to troubleshoot this problem.” And NASA has said that even after the problems is fixed; it would still take around 4 days to get the shuttle ready for the launch stage.
NASA is also looking for whether the newly made additions to the shuttle to make it safer for launch are causing conflicts with the original equipment on board. They have however reported that there are still remote possibilities of a possible launch window sometime next week. But that would require NASA to have some luck in finding the problem and fixing it soon.
The seven astronauts for the mission have also decided to stay near the launch site and not return back to their homes hoping for the revival of the mission. However, if the problems are not soon fixed, the Shuttle would required to be taken back to the hangar which would most likely move the launch to September later this year.
