Bajaj Auto considering entering the Indonesian market

Bajaj Auto Limited has huge plans for the current fiscal year. They are aiming for new scooter models, launching bikes with as much as 450cc engines and increasing their production facilities. In addition, the company has also planned to launch operations in the overseas Indonesian market. The Executive Director of the company Sanjiv Bajaj was addressing the shareholders of the company.

Bajaj is actively looking for setting up an assembly operation in Jakarta. They have said that a team including a foreign executive has already started working on the business model. Sanjiv Bajaj said: “This is being undertaken as all this time we were only exporting the vehicles, but now the time has come for expanding our presence in the global market”.

Indonesia is just going to be the beginning as the company is targeting the entire Asean countries. Sanjiv was supported by Managing Director, Rajiv Bajaj who announced that the company is looking at coming out with three scooter models by December 2006. He also addressed the media and said: “Currently, the gearless segment caters to only about 11 per cent of the total two-wheeler sales, but five years down the line there will be substantial increase in the market share”.

Bajaj Auto has also confirmed that they are planning to increase their production capacity of motorcycles to 2.4 million bikes a year.
