Apple sells their 500 millionth song on iTunes

Apple has created a history of sort when they announced today that they have now sold more than 500 million songs on their iTunes music store. The company also makes almost a third of their total sales through the iPod music player, which complements the iTunes by enabling the users to play songs purchased on the iTunes to transfer to the iPod and listen to them on the go.

The lucky apple fan to have downloaded the exact 500 millionth song happens to be Amy Greer, of Lafayette, Indiana. She downloaded the song ‘Mississippi Girl’ from Faith Hill. As a result of this distinction, she now wins a booty from the company in the form of 10 iPods, a credit for 10,000 songs, and a trip for four to a Coldplay concert.

The company has also surprised most market expectations by selling a record number of 6.16 million units of iPod in the last quarter. This is much more than the expected sales figure of 5.29 million by the market. The company gained sales by going into collaboration with Hewlett-Packard and Wal-Mart. The company is also rumored to be now aiming towards providing video playback facility on their iPod along with selling videos on iTunes.

Future certainly looks interesting for the Macintosh maker.
