Space Shuttle launch not possible before July 26

NASA has confirmed that there are no possibilities of a Discovery Space Shuttle launch before July 26. Therefore, the space agency just has the period between July 26 and July 31 or otherwise they would have to wait for the month of September for the next launch window. The agency still has not located the problem area, which resulted in the cancellation of the launch program on the originally scheduled date.

Space Shuttle Program Manager Bill Parsons said at a press conference yesterday: “Troubleshooting is continuing around the clock.” He was supported by Program Deputy Manager Wayne Hale who added: “This team is persistent and energetic and we will conquer this problem too. Once the problem is resolved the next opportunity to tank the vehicle would be Tuesday, the 26th of July.”

NASA is still hoping for a launch in the available launch window and is hoping to fix the problem before the end of the week. Parsons added while talking to the media: “Right now, I can tell you that we’re still looking for the problem. We’ve waited two-plus years, 2 1/2 years to be here. We’re trying awfully hard to resolve this issue.”

Eileen Collins, commander of the Space Shuttle’s mission has also said that the crew is still optimistic about the launch program and is ready to go anytime. She said: “My crew will remain in quarantine for the near future, maintaining our proficiency for this mission. We are keeping in close touch with the troubleshooting plan; we have confidence that the best people are working it. In fact, the plan our engineers have put together is impressive, and we are very proud of the work they are doing!”
