Apple has Microsoft waiting in the online movie sales market
Rumors in the market are saying that Apple is actively in talks with some of the biggest movie studios in the US for a possible deal to sell their videos on their iTunes store. This is to enter into the evolving market of selling videos and movies on the net. The company has already pioneered in the digital music sales market and sells more than a million songs from their iTunes daily.
In addition, the company is also the maker of the best selling iPod, which now forms a big part of their revenue stream. Apple recently reached a milestone when it reportedly sold its 500 millionth song on their iTunes store. The company also recently upgraded their entire range of iPod devices to come with colored screens. This might just be another step on the way to make them support playing videos.
Latest news claims that the latest company to have been approached by Apple for a video sales deal is the entertainment giant Disney. In addition, they are also said to have approached a number of media companies to possibly make available television shows on their stores. However, they have to be better prepared this time along if they are to dominate the market of digital movies sales on the internet.
Microsoft has already revealed that they are currently working hard on to build bridges with the movie industry. Microsoft chairperson Bill Gates recently told a media group: “We’ll see a broader range of movies available for both rental and ownership.†The company would certainly like to beat Apple here now that they have probably realized that iPod has become too big of an icon to be matched in the digital music players market.
Bill added: “We’re really having to work more closely with partners in the hardware industry and content industry, to really think through the whole end-to-end experience and make it better. That’s where we’ve done our mea culpa. We are fixing that.†In addition to Microsoft, Sony is another company reportedly working on the similar technologies.
