Global PC Sales is up
Research companies IDC and Gartner say that the global sales of computers is massively up and more and more people are moving on to notebooks. This report comes after most marketing analysts had predicted a moderate growth in the sales of computers on the worldwide levels. In May this year, IDC and Gartner had predicted that the sales of computers would grow at about 12 percent.
They referred to the slowing consumer purchases and an uncertain economic forecast. However, the actual facts reported a 16.6 percent growth (from IDC) and 14.8 percent increase (From Gartner) in the actual second-quarter PC shipment. The difference between the findings of the two research group is due to the ways companies record “white-box” shipments which are the computers sold by assemblers.
Last time the growth was so impressive was way back in 1999. The figures were helped by the impressive pricing of the notebooks in the markets, which are way, more user friendly than the earlier days. Consumers can buy decent notebooks for a fraction of a price prevailing a couple of years ago.
Dell continued to dominate the branded computer market with a growth of an impressive 23.7%. Their market share has now improved to 19.3 percent as per IDC’s report. Hewlett-Packard is close with 15.6 percent market share.
