Apple selling more computers than Lenovo in United States
Apple is certainly going places! It is selling more Macintosh computers than they have in the last couple of years and it has now overtaken the IBM PC division owners Lenovo in sales in the US market. They are now the fourth largest computer seller in the US market. The sales of the Macintosh computers increased by almost 33% in the last quarter, which helped them, improve their market share. It now has an impressive 4.5% market share in the domestic market.
The company trails Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Gateway in terms of number of computers sold. This is an impressive figure as Wintel based systems continue to dominate the market over Macintosh computers. Lenovo has itself seen its share drop from 5.1% to 4.1% in the IBM’s domestic market since they took over the PC division.
The sales increase of Macs is around 3 times the increase in sales of computers overall in the USA. Apple has themselves admitted that sales of Macs have touched a 5-year high. The popularity of Apple iPod seems to help the company attract users to their products. Of course, the cheap offering in the form of Mini Mac has also helped the company lure away users who already own a PC.
IDC researcher, Loren Loverde, said in a statement: “Apple is stringing together a couple of good quarters and Lenovo is dealing with merger issues. The biggest surprise is just top-line growth being 4 percent ahead of what we forecast. People have been talking about how this recovery wave would peter out, and that premise is proving to be a theory, not a reality.”
