Cisco-Linksys acquires Kiss Technologies

Cisco-Linksys is one of the leaders in the field of home-networking hardware and now they are aiming to expand their reach in the home entertainment market by acquiring Kiss Technologies. The company deals in networked DVD recorders and related products. Cisco Systems Inc. president Charles Giancarlo talked about their latest acquisition: “As more and more entertainment content is delivered over the Internet and as consumers demand access to digital entertainment inside and outside of their home networks, networked entertainment devices will become an integral part of Consumer Electronics.”

The deal is expected to cost the networking major around USD 61 million. And it would gain them the Kiss’s experienced research and design team. They would now be aiming to develop new networked entertainment products. This deal would also enable Linksys to launch more of the Denmark based company’s products in their domestic market in the United States.

This strategy would give the Cisco Linksys combo an insight over the user’s preference in the US market when it comes to buying entertainment devices. They would also gain the knowledge of products, which do well in the European market. Cisco Systems Inc. president Charles Giancarlo added to his statement: “Kiss has emerged as a leader in networked video and audio products in Europe, and we hope to use that expertise to expand worldwide.”

The network is the TV. Makes sense to capture it on a dvd recorder.
