Vodafone gains on increasing consumer base
Mobile Phone company Vodafone registered a massive 4.1 million growth in its consumer base in the first quarter of its financial year. The figure is much bigger than the estimated market expectations and is also 35% from the figures a year ago. The company’s global subscriber base is now around 165 million and the company has shown impressive growth in markets like Spain, Italy, and Romania.
However, not everything is as rosy as it seems. Vodafone reported average revenues per customer figures dropping in markets like Britain and Germany. It is also seeing dropping consumer base in the big market of Japan. The company managed to signup 1.1 million new 3G users in the quarter, taking total registered 3G users to 3.3 million.
Arun Sarin, chief executive of Vodafone said in a statement: “We have seen strong performances across Europe and in the US, and we continue to focus on improving our business in Japan. 3G is building momentum with over one million more registered devices in the quarter.” The company is placed third in the Japanese market after local giants like NTT DoCoMo and KDDI.
