Intel to start a plant in Arizona costing USD 3 Billion

Intel has shown signs which prove that the demand for microprocessors is not slowing down. Earlier the news of Intel opening a new plant in Israel came in. and the latest news in is that the company is also planning to start a plant in Arizona, which would cost it around USD 3 Billion. They have also announced plans to convert an inactive New Mexico plant into a temporary test facility.

This new plant in Arizona is expected to create up to 1,000 new Intel jobs over the next several years. In addition, more people are expected to be hired during the construction process of this factory. Intel CEO Paul Otellini said in a statement: “This investment positions our manufacturing network for future growth to support our platform initiatives and will give us additional supply flexibility across a range of products”.

The factory in Arizona is expected to be completed by second half of 2007 and it would be the sixth factory of Intel that produces chip wafers that are about 12 inches in diameter. Intel has other plants running in Oregon, Ireland, and New Mexico along with two more under construction at Ireland and Arizona. About the inactive plant in New Mexico, the company would be restarting to use it as a test plant in the next 2 years and it is expected to generate around 300 more jobs in that region.
