India is a priority market for Ford

Ford has made it clear that India remains a priority market for them in the coming times, as they get ready to launch a brand new car in the Indian market. David Friedman, Managing Director, and President, Ford India announced today that the planned vehicle would see its global launch from the Indian market itself. However, he refrained from giving away many details about this upcoming vehicle from the second largest automaker in the world.

This upcoming new car from Ford is expected to fill the gap between the two existing cars already present in the local market Ford Ikon and Ford Mondeo. The company also sells Ford Fusion and Ford Endeavour in addition to that. With this new car, ford would be aiming to give Hyundai Elantra some competition in this rather confused segment in the auto sector.

Ford’s new car would feature next generation TDCi technology and would come with options in both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel engines would be powered by the revolutionary Turbo Diesel Common-rail Injection Technology. While, the petrol engine is expected to the 1.6-liter engine which the company plans to develop internally.

Arvind Mathew, Managing Director and President (designate) spoke to the press about this upcoming model from the company: “It was developed keeping the Indian conditions in mind and has been undergoing homologation test since February.” this new vehicle from the company has been developed by the Ford’s global engineering and design team in collaboration with the Indian engineers. The pricing structure is expected to be competitive considering the company plans to achieve a localization content of around 75% from day 1.

Sir, I am using a Ford Ikon ZXi 1.6 1999 model for the last 2 years. I have been trying to find out what international model of the Ford this car is based on in terms of engine specs. Tried the Authorised Workshop but they are either not aware or they have been instructed to keep this info under wraps.Help!

1.4 Tdci will be of no power for a car bigger than IKON so go in for a 1.6 TDCI for the new B 376 launch from Ford India
