Samsung in collaboration with XM Satellite Radio
Samsung is seriously pursuing the digital music player market as it looks forward to matching the competition led by Apple through its iPod music players. The company has been quite aggressive in their approach as they continue to launch a range of products aimed at the iPod music player. These include both hard disk based and flash memory powered music devices.
However, apple has been quite successful in keeping the interest going on with their products as they also as in the process of updating them with rumors claiming that new updated players are just a couple of weeks away. Therefore, Samsung is taking the approach of supporting their players with the music content, which Apple provides to their iPod users through iTunes digital music store.
The company is now planning to launch new MP3 players, which would come with support for receiving XM Satellite Radio transmissions. XM is a satellite radio service based in Washington DC operated by a group of companies comprising News Corporation’s DirecTV, General Motors, American Honda, Hughes Electronics, and a series of private investment funds.
This service broadcast commercial free programs supported by pay-for-service service and it provides access to around 67 music channels, 39 news channels and 21 traffic and weather forecast channels. Supporting this technology would give access to a massive amount of content for the owners of these upcoming MP3 players from the Korean giant.
