Discovery takes off and is a success
NASA would be finally be able to breathe easily as Discovery has finally taken off and successfully reached its orbit. It took the crew of seven astronauts on the mission to the International Space Station and is carrying the supplies and repair material for the ISS. This is the first space shuttle mission by the space agency ever since the Columbia disaster and it took quite a lot of time for the NASA to make sure that the shuttle was safe for the crew and the mission.
Discovery almost took off around 2 weeks ago but the mission was delayed after NASA noticed that one of the four fuel sensors on board was not working properly. The space agency worked hard for two weeks trying to find out the solution for the problem and in the end decided that the shuttle was safe to go to space in spite of the problem repeating again. And they were successful today.
Space Shuttle Discovery successfully left Earth behind on a 12-day test flight to the International Space Station (ISS) with no replication of the technical glitch, which occurred on the last attempt by the NASA. Discovery’s STS-114 commander Eileen Collins spoke to the media before the launch: “With an early morning launch, we hope we give you a good show. We’re very prepared.â€
It took around 9 minutes for the shuttle to reach the orbit and now it is on its way to have a rendezvous with the International Space Station.
