Apple updates Apple Mac Mini range of cheap Macintosh computers
Apple computers have upgraded the cheapest series of Macintosh computers available in the form of Mac Mini. Now, all Mac Mini computers come powered by 512 MB RAM upgraded from 256 MB RAM in the earlier versions. The 1.42GHz model now also gets built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networking. The company has also unveiled a third product in this range with a USD 699 model, which comes equipped with a DVD burner on top of the features in the 1.42GHz model.
Most of these add-ons were previously available as add-ons for the existing products from the Mac Mini range of Macintosh computers. Users could get them added on to their machines at the time of purchase or at a later date by an Apple certified technician. However, Mac Mini does not allow customers to add upgrades at home because the device is not designed to provide access to its inner workings.
When this micro computer product was first unveiled last year, the critics claimed that the models were too underpowered to be considered a current generation Macs. Adding extra features to bring it at par with equivalent products like wireless networking, additional memory and a keyboard and mouse, the combined cost increased by as much as USD 300. This practically nullified the concept of a cheap Macintosh.
The company has taken these steps to enhance the value Mac Mini provides to the end user who is considering moving from the PC platform to Mac.
