NASA assures that Discovery Space Shuttle is safe

NASA has confirmed that as per the date available with the Discovery Space Shuttle is in good shape and the mission to International Space Station is going extremely well. They have so far found 25 small dings on the surface of the shuttle made during the launch process due to the falling debris. And the number rises to around 150 on average as per the NASA’s archives.

The space agency has already taken the responsibility for the four chunks of foam insulation, which fell off the surface of the shuttle during the take off. One of the chunks also reportedly might have struck the wing. The agency is still not sure if their was any damage due to that incident. Even NASA Chief Mike Griffins has admitted that they should have made sure that this should not have happened.

Columbia Space Shuttle is said to have collapsed during its return to earth due to the damage by such a piece on the surface of the earth during the launch time. The agency has now assigned a team to make sure this mistake is not repeated again. NASA is also somewhat disappointed that the media is ignoring the measures taken by the agency in making the shuttle as safe as it is humanly possible and giving more importance to the problems with the external tank of the shuttle.

NASA also said that they would give a go ahead to the return of the shuttle if all the safety checks come go well. Discovery is scheduled to return back to earth at the end of next week with the scheduled date at the moment being August 7. NASA might also go ahead with the launch of Atlantis if it manages to find out a solution for the debris problem with the shuttle launch, which has now led to the grounding of the Space Shuttle fleet.
