Sybase to acquire Extended Systems
Sybase has announced plans to acquire mobile middleware provider Extended Systems. The deal is worth around $71.3 million and is totally cash transfer based offer. Sybase believes that this deal would help it move into the mobile computing arena. They have already made quite many acquisitions to get a stronghold in this growing market.
The company is expected to make use of the expertise it gained by acquiring Extended Systems to integrate products that provide access to collaboration tools from mobile devices, to its iAnywhere Solutions unit. This unit develops softwares to provide embedded database software for wireless gadgets.
Both the companies are also involved in development of other applications for the mobile platforms. The expertise of both the companies would now compliment each other resulting in better quality products for the end user. It is also expected to add to the earlier purchase of data management applications maker XcelleNet by Sybase.
Sybase Chief Executive John Chen said in a statement: “This acquisition will position Sybase with a powerful, end-to-end information mobility offering that, when combined with our mobile database and mobile device management products will enable Sybase to deliver on the benefits of the unwired enterprise.â€
