Fujifilm to offer a 9-Megapixel Cameras
The battle of mega pixels is renewed with Fujifilm announcing plans to launch two digital still cameras with 9-megapixel image sensors. These two models are codenamed FinePix S9000 and the FinePix E900. This is somewhat interesting considering buyers of these digital devices have stopped looking at the resolution as such and now prefer to make choices based on the feature set and the quality of the end image generated by the cameras.
However, there is still the age-old battle between the manufacturers on who can develop the newest technology and Fujifilm is the latest winner. These new models are claimed to be the first ones in the market to capture over 9 megapixels. The best the retail market has to offer in this category are the Canon’s EOS 20D, an SLR model with an 8.2 megapixel sensor, Konica Minolta Photo Imaging’s Dimage A200 (8 megapixels), and the Olympus E-300 EVOLT (8.1 megapixels).
These cameras would as a result would set newer levels to conquest for the competition. Even the mobile phones offer as many as 7 mega pixels but are not very popular due to excessively high costing. The market analysts on their part say that the consumer interest lies with 5 megapixel cameras with features to make photography a convenient process.
Fujifilm is using a new CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensor and a new image processor to achieve these new standards. These also offer other benefits like low image noise and improved shutter speed. They call it “Real Photo Technology†which is also in use in their available products in the market like the FinePix F10 and the FinePix Z1. These two new models are expected to cost as much as USD 700 when they arrive in the market later this year.
