Scalix brings mobile messaging to Linux
Linux surely is going places. Reports already claims that this Operating System is giving Microsoft Mobile OS a hard time in the small screen device market and now with the growing popularity of messaging on the move, the latest news would boost the user confidence in the Linux model for PDAs and mobiles. Linux-based messaging vendor Scalix Corp has reportedly extended its email and calendaring functionality to wireless devices.
They have developed this mobile solution in collaboration with the communications software vendor Notify Technology Corp. this software solution would bring the company’s email, calendar, address book, and Personal Information Management (PIM) functionality to numerous wireless devices and a lot of carriers are planning to support this new application.
The solution works in popular small screen devices like the hugely successful Research in Motion Blackberry device along with wireless PalmOS devices and Windows Mobile PDAs, and smart phones from the likes of Samsung and Motorola. Some of the network carriers supported by their products are Cingular, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
The company is just one of the many small vendors aiming to beat the likes of Microsoft, Novell, and IBM Lotus in the messaging space. They use the Hewlett-Packard Co’s OpenMail software which they have licensed directly from the tech giant HP.
