Air Canada having problems with pilots

Air Canada is seriously working towards improving its public image. However, the latest news is not going to help it considering the airline has to cancel some of its regular flights because their pilots had reached the limit on their flying time for the month. Air Canada Representative Priscille LeBlanc said in a statement: “Some customers will have been inconvenienced. We’re very apologetic.”

They have also advised their passengers several days ahead of the planned schedule reductions. However, there were only short delays as flights were consolidated and larger aircraft pressed into service. Sunday saw Air Canada canceling 4 per cent of flights as part of a “pre-planned schedule reduction due to a shortage of available flight hours on its Airbus narrow-body fleet”.

The airline suffered due to disruptions by electrical storm activity in the U.S. Northeast and central Canada, which led to delays in runway repairs at Halifax International Airport because of heavy fog. This resulted in significant number of unplanned flying hours for pilots in spite of the fact that they did not really fly. Worse was the fact that their reserve pilots had reached their maximum flying times.

This happens to be just the latest news from the company, which disappoints the investors and their customers. Earlier this year, they had to cancel a USD 6 Billion order to Boeing after their workers refused a pay cut deal offered by the company to pay for the airplanes.
