Mobile phones for kids
Mobile companies are now targeting the kids under 16 with their products. This segment has remained quite controversial with parents not liking the concept of giving young kids access to an independent mobile phone. However, these latest products coming from companies like Enfora LP and LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. bring features, which let parents control what their kids can access from their mobile phones.
One of these products TicTalk is aimed at kids ages 6 and up and it would now be competing with products from more companies planning to enter this market or already present in the market. More models like Firefly phone and the new LeapFrog model are expected to be available in the retail market this month and feature parental control.
Some of these products limit the capacities of the phone to only dial pre-programmed numbers. Other act like walkie-talkies enabling two-way conversations with owners of similar device. Most of these products come with prepaid packages enabling parents to control how much their kids can use their mobile phones. The idea is to enable parents to punish or reward their kids with talk time by shopping for it on the Internet.
Most of these products also come with games designed for kids to keep them busy when they are free and want to have some fun with their mobiles.
