Intel recalling a batch of Pentium 4 Extreme Edition Chips

Leaders of the microprocessor market in the Personal Computer segment Intel have announced that they are recalling a batch of their ultra expensive Pentium 4 Extreme Edition Chips. The problem with these chips is related to the heatsink supplied in the box. The report released originally by The Inquirer web site says that a small amount of Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processors 3.73GHz is affected.

Intel has released the information that the batch number is 3502A770, for stock control unit (SKU) Intel Pentium 4 3.73GHz with 2MB cache and 1066MHz processor system bus. These processors are some of the fastest available in the market from the company and are aimed at powering extremely fast PCs used by enthusiasts and gamers.

These range of Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 3.73GHz microprocessors are based on the Prescott 2M core that brings 2MB L2 cache and features Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) as well as Execute Disable Bit (EDB) capability. The last component protects certain memory areas from malicious software provided that Windows XP SP2 operating system is used.

The report says that only a couple of hundred processors shipped are being recalled and the company is giving a full refund for these products.
