Microsoft believes competition for Apple iPod to become intense
World’s largest software company Microsoft is working hard on developing technologies with its partners for MP3 players, which can provide enough competition to Apple iPod to lessen its domination. The company believes that the competition for the iconic digital music player would become more intense as better and more technically advance products land up in the market in the near future.
Microsoft is working with hardware companies like Philips, Samsung and Creative in their hunt to develop that iPod killer which every other company including the Walkman range of Sony has failed to do so till now. Erik Huggers, head of Microsoft’s Digital Music Division said in a statement: ‘Come this fall there is going to be a number of devices that get close to competing with Apple’s iPod’.
He also added that the new products being developed by these companies are going provide better standard industrial design, usability, functionality, and features. However, while these companies work on providing a challenging alternative to Apple’s iPod, Apple itself is rumored to be working on the next big thing, which is providing video playing functionality on their iPod range of players.
On the other hand, the other devices continue to face problems with the interoperability with applications and other hardware. Apple has the unique advantage of having their iPod supporting their own Apple iTunes application and the online digital music store.
