Sprint, Nextel Merger Complete
Sprint Corporation’s long-standing merger with Nextel Communications Corporation has finally been completed. Now the merged entity is preparing itself for the unified company’s introduction to their combined 40 million consumer base. The deal has been worth around USD 35 Billion and it brings together the companies with disparate strengths and customer bases. Experts believe that these two are perfect partners as the country’s third largest wireless provider.
Timothy M. Donahue, the chairperson of the newly formed entity said in a press statement: “Communication is changing and we are not only ready for it, we will lead It.†he was earlier the Nextel president and CEO before the merger. Their would be sometime before the consumers notice the existence of the new company on the horizon with publicity material being used on the roads and retail outlets.
The company is planning to leverage their newly formed brand identity in time for the crucial holiday shopping season. The company would be operating from the Overland Park where Sprint was initially based. The merger has had it shares of oppositions. The new company is left to deal with a litany of disagreements with their affiliates, who claim Nextel’s addition will lead Sprint to violate agreements it made in the 1990s not to compete with its affiliates in their territories.

Seeing the first results of the merger…they screwed up this months bill. I have a pre-paid unlimited data plan, but this month I was billed for minutes of use. I went thru issues like this with the AT&T/Cingular merger as well. Hmmm…I wonder, if I swtich to Verizon will they also go thru a merger :-)
