Yahoo! add more features to Local Search

Yahoo! is working pretty hard to match up the services provided by their prime competitor in the search engine market with Google. The search engine company has just announced that they have added new features to their local search engine making it better and more efficient than ever. They have added on user reviews and interactive maps to the Yahoo! Local Search to make them more useful to the end user.

The local search engine market is worth around $3.4 billion and has other players like AOL and Microsoft’s MSN Search Engine. With these new additions, Yahoo! allows the users to add and read user recommendations and the ability to search for restaurants, movies, and events within a neighborhood. Earlier they had to browse through results for an entire city at one go.

Users are now even capable of accessing their My Yahoo accounts to read updated user recommendations for local restaurants and events. In addition, they can always subscribe to RSS feeds for such places and localities. Paul Levine, Yahoo Local general manager was speaking to the media during the launch and said: “The future of local search lies not only in offering highly comprehensive and relevant local search results, but in combining those results with community generated content.”

Other feature addition includes real-time updates on local event information and relevant results based on previous searches by a user.
