Amazon starts selling digital stories ‘Shorts’

There are books, and then there are e-books. However, what would you call pieces of short literature, which cannot actually be considered even a mini novel? Amazon likes to call it Shorts and they have now on offer similar digital stories for sale on their stores. The company is selling pieces of literature from independent authors who are now writing exclusively for the Amazon.com.

The company however has no plans to sell these stories in print form. Shorts according to Amazon are just digital copies of short stories that can be e-mailed, downloaded, or printed from a Web site for 49 cents apiece. Consider it like a single song, which anyone can purchase and download from digital music stores like the iTunes.

One of the authors affiliated to the company, Daniel Wallace said in a statement: “Publishers have always had a hard time selling and marketing the single, short-form work. Amazon.com has created a new way for authors to get that kind of work out there, which is incredibly exciting.” There are around 60 authors who have joined this effort from the company.

Interestingly, not all the authors are the unknown types. In fact, author of best selling fiction novels Danielle Steel is contributing as well in the form of a 13-page short titled “Candy for the Soul”. Looks like the company would start another new kind of digital revolution that might impress more than just a few fans of contemporary literature.
