Discovery Space Shuttle reaches home in Florida
The space shuttle Discovery has finally arrived at its final destination for quite sometime as it landed on the top of a Boeing plane in Florida. The Shuttle has reached the Kennedy Space Center after traveling piggyback across the US on a modified Boeing 747. The journey was somewhat delayed after bad weather led to NASA engineers postpone the flight from Louisiana to Florida yesterday.
It had started its journey from Edwards Air Force base on Friday. The next space shuttle mission is somewhat in doubts for quite sometime as the space agency NASA has announced that they would first fix the falling debris problems with the Shuttle launch, which almost resulted in another catastrophe on the Discovery’s mission to the International Space Station.
The trip from California to Florida alone cost the NASA a cool million dollars. The Space Shuttle could not land on its original landing base due to bad weather and NASA decided to get it landed on an alternative location. During its stay in California, NASA undertook some repair job on the shuttle as the crews worked around the clock, to purge it of hazardous substances and remove fuel from the on-board tanks.
NASA has already clarified that they do not see another mission to undergo until March 2006. This means that a long holiday is due for the shuttle, which would see a lot of work done on it to improve the safety of the craft and the crew onboard.
