Yahoo! targets Japan with their music subscription service
Yahoo! has announced that they would be entering the Japanese music market with their subscription-based module and would allow the customers of the world’s second largest music download market to listen to the songs before purchasing them and downloading them. The launch is due for today and the new service would have on offer around 100,000 songs. Their prime competitor would be Apple, which launched their iTunes service just a couple of weeks ago.
Sony also has a decent presence in their home market when it comes to making songs available for purchase on the Internet. It is Apple who would be the challenger to Yahoo! with their store offering more than a million songs to the Japanese audience. Yahoo! however has this added advantage of offering songs on subscription. And they are the only one who would let the consumers listen to certain songs for free before the end user decides to buy it.
The company expects to earn its revenues from advertising and commissions from song sales with plans to bolster traffic to its fee-based operations through the new service that is based on an online radio format. They also plan to increase the number of songs available from their store. Apple offer more than just songs on their store. They have also on offer Podcasts, or sound files, and radio shows.
Apple also holds the distinction of selling more than 1 million songs in the first four days in the Japanese market. Now, that is impressive…
