Universal Music Group collaborates with Single Touch Interactive
Music industry giant and the major record label Universal Music Group have announced plans to get into collaboration with Single Touch Interactive. The group would be launching a music-oriented cell phone service for the consumer who is more used to carrying a mobile phone along with an iPod. Their phone service would allow the users to download snippets of songs and in the future complete songs from the services provided by the UMG.
The company as a result joins an elite group of big brands like ESPN and Disney to launch their own personalized mobile phone service to deliver specific content to the end user. they would be purchasing the mobile minutes in wholesales from the national carriers like Spring and Cingular and sell them in the form of prepaid cards to their customers using their phone services.
Many more companies are entering into this line for providing music-oriented phone service as they plan to earn revenues from selling music over mobile devices. Apple is itself collaborating with Motorola to launch mobile phones, which would be compatible with the Apple iTunes stores. This web service would be known as MoveU and plans to sell complete songs for mobile phones in the near future.
The companies plan to use mobile phone products from Asian tech giants like LG or Samsung and would offer them for pretty cheap ranging from prices between $99 to $149. Sprint itself has plans to launch a similar service by the end of the year.
