Intel to accelerate dual-core processor development
Microprocessor giant Intel is stepping up its efforts to develop the much-anticipated dual core processors for the retail market. The company announced that they are enhancing the availability of these processors in the market, which includes the series containing dual-core, hyper-threaded Intel(r) Xeon(tm) processors, and Intel Xeon processors MP.
The company claims that these new series of processors would be better than ever and would bring improved server responsiveness, speed, and multi-tasking by allowing software to manage information from up to four “brains” per Intel processor. The company has also begun a broad evaluation programme of thousands of dual-core platforms for software developers and enterprise customers.
Intel has also decided to bring forward the delivery date of the dual-core Intel Xeon processor MP which were originally targeted for the 2006 season to this year itself. These processors are being developed for the higher end servers and would come with four or more cores. The company plans to make available these processors in this year alone.
Intel claims that the latest series of Dual Core Intel Xeon Processor MP would deliver 60 per cent better performance over previous generations and will use the Intel(r) E8500 chipset introduced earlier this year.
