Volkswagen in talks with DaimlerChrysler for a minivan
German auto giant Volkswagen is reportedly talking with the US Automaker and rivals DaimlerChrysler on a possible collaboration over developing a minivan. This vehicle would be made available for sale in the United States under the brand of Volkswagen. The report was published by the Germany’s Handelsblatt newspaper, which claims that the deal between these automakers could be signed at the next month’s auto show in Frankfurt.
The deal is about developing a van for Volkswagen based on the Chrysler Voyager. Volkswagen has officially declined to comment on these rumors floating in the market. The deal has not been approved as per the news sources but they claim that it has been approved in principle by the board of management and supervisory board at DaimlerChrysler.
The talks between these two companies involve high-level executives like Dieter Zetsche who is due to become the DaimlerChrysler’s chief executive soon. The rumors also say that the suggested model would be exclusive to US only to prevent any damage to the Chrysler minivan’s chances of success in Europe. And the model could be launched as early as 2007 in the market.
