Nokia and Motorola increases market share in mobile phones
The top two makers of mobile phones in the world Nokia and Motorola both increased their respective market share in the mobile phones segment. The latest stats reveal that these two companies combined today manufacture more than half the number of mobiles, which are sold in the retail market. The research institute Gartner revealed the numbers.
The stats reveal the figures for the period between April to June this year. This period saw 190.5 million mobile handsets being sold in the markets. This is an increase of more than 20% from the figures of the previous year same period. Both Nokia and Motorola saw a minor increase in their market share at the expense of smaller players.
Nokia accounted for around 31.9 percent of all the sales compared to 17.9 percent for Motorola. Both the companies are working hard on continuing their domination in the market consisting of emerging players from Asian countries. Samsung, LG, and BenQ are some of the smaller players, which might soon become a major headache for these giants in this field.
Motorola in the last couple of years have made big progress as they have leaped from the fifth place to the second and are increasingly becoming a threat to the popularity of Nokia in the market.
