BBC plans to launch a digital edition
British Broadcasting Corporation has announced plans that it is considering making it channels broadcast on the web simultaneously with the television. The media company is planning a simulcast of BBC One or BBC Two, letting UK viewers see programmes on the web at the same time as they are coming on the television. Providing the content on the mobile phone is also being considered and the technology is being developed by the corporation.
There is also plans to develop a player which can be used to play content from BBC for a week after it has been broadcast on television. Ms Bennett was talking to Guardian newspaper when she said that the BBC hoped to simulcast a channel within the next year. She said: “It’s a great way of getting public service content, which people have already paid for, out to people in a different way.â€
BBC got a shock when they discovered that the first episode of the new Doctor Who was leaked on to the Internet. It realized that their was a big demand in the market for digital content availability on the Internet and it prompted them to think about digital broadcasting of television content. A BBC spokesman said the corporation was aiming to simulcast a channel permanently but would restrict it to UK viewers only.
