Intel to develop better batteries for laptops with Panasonic
Matsushita Battery Industrial’s Panasonic division would be working with microprocessor giant Intel to develop products with better and improved battery technology to power the next generation mobile devices with longer lasting backups. The companies would be focusing on improving current lithium ion battery technology to the point where a notebook computer will be able to run for eight hours on a single charge.
This is quite a big challenge for the duo. Though, the companies claim that such products should be out in the market for retail sales sometime next year. The longer battery life would help extending the lives of the notebook computers and other devices such as cell phones and digital still cameras. These devices are some of the biggest consumers of portable batteries as they are used in field where no power sources are available.
The companies said that the new batteries would have the capacities of 2.9Ah (ampere-hours). This is around 30 percent improvement over the current generation batteries powering the mobile devices. These batteries would provide charge in the range of 2.5V to 4.2V depending upon the charge left in them. Both the companies would be working in collaboration on improving the technology and getting these products out in the market next year.
