Nokia opens a Research and Development center in China
Nokia is continuing its expansion in the big market in China. They know that the two Asian countries China and India are going to become some of their biggest markets in the future and have started working on establishing a presence here. While, they are planning for a manufacturing unit in India, they have now opened a Research and Development center in China.
The Finnish mobile giant, which is the world’s largest maker of mobile phones, has established this R&D center in Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Nokia said in a statement: “The R&D center will develop mobile applications based on 3G and IP Multimedia Subsystem for both Chinese and global markets.†They would be the company’s sixth R&D unit and second 3G R&D center in China.
Nokia has constantly expanded their approach in dealing with the Chinese market. They have strong local R&D, manufacturing base in the country and want to continue to dominate the market. With Motorola making an impressive comeback, it is important for them to innovate themselves and continue to lure the customers into buying their products from the market.
David Ho, President of Nokia China said in a statement: “Nokia is delighted to establish a new R&D centre in this part of China. This marks another important step forward for Nokia in implementing its localization strategy. On the other hand, this R&D Center will further strengthen our partnership with and our market position in this important economic center of China.”
